Skids - Pressure Regulating Skid

What is a Pressure Regulating Skid?

A Pressure Regulating Skid (PRS) is a modular, pre-assembled system designed to reduce and control gas or fluid pressure to a safe, steady, and required level before it enters a downstream process or distribution network.

It ensures that even when the inlet pressure or flow fluctuates, the outlet pressure remains constant and safe — protecting downstream equipment and maintaining process stability.

A Pressure Regulating Skid automatically adjusts and maintains gas or fluid pressure at a preset value, using valves, regulators, and control instruments — all mounted on a compact steel frame.

Typical components include:

  1. Inlet & Outlet Valves – to isolate the system for maintenance or emergency shutdown.
  2. Filter/Separator – removes dust, liquid droplets, or other impurities from the incoming gas.
  3. Pressure Regulator / Control Valve – reduces high pressure to the desired outlet pressure.
  4. Pressure Safety Valve (PSV) – releases excess pressure to prevent system damage.
  5. Pressure Gauges / Transmitters – monitor inlet and outlet pressures.
  6. Heater (optional) – prevents freezing of gas during pressure drop (especially for natural gas).
  7. Flow Meter (optional) – measures the amount of gas passing through the system.
  8. Control Panel (PLC / SCADA) – enables automation and remote monitoring.
  9. Skid Frame – a steel base structure that holds everything together for transport and easy installation.
How it workts
Advantages
Application
  1. High-pressure gas enters the skid through the inlet valve.
  2. It passes through a filter to remove contaminants.
  3. The pressure regulator reduces the pressure to the required level.
  4. The pressure control valve maintains that pressure despite flow changes.
  5. The safety valve protects the system by venting if the pressure exceeds limits.
  6. The regulated gas exits through the outlet to the downstream system.
